Peterborough Neighbourhood Wildlife Corridors

Back to Activities

Peterborough Neighbourhood Wildlife Corridors is an outdoor Eco-therapy project for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people age 4/5 - 18, to help improve local green spaces for the benefit of the community and wildlife. Activities can have a conservation, art or learning focus.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • Activities based around nature can reduce stress and increase happiness by giving you a chance to feel connected to the environment.
  • Art activities can give you the space and ability to express yourselves.
  • New experiences such as pond dipping or creating a wildflower garden can increase mental resilience, helping you in the wider context of your life.

“I had the best experience with Froglife. I am so happy I got to explore the outdoors and learn new things about nature. It has made me less stressed about my exams. I feel confident outdoors and in my ability to find new outdoor activities more independently.”

Peterborough Neighbourhood Wildlife Corridors Project is run by Froglife, a wildlife charity committed to the conservation of amphibians and reptiles and saving the habitats they depend on. This national charity has a base in Peterborough and you can find out more about Froglife Peterborough here.

What to expect

The free activities for children and young people take place at various locations around Peterborough and Whittlesey. Participants should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes that could get muddy. Froglife provide all equipment and gloves needed for activities.

8 to 10 Week Projects

Young people are guided to work as part of a team to achieve an outcome with wildlife and community benefits. They are involved in the process of planning and completing a project in an outdoor community setting such as a nature reserve or community garden.

Examples:

  • conservation activities such as building an insect hotel, amphibian refuge or pond
  • small conservation activities such as planting pollinator flowers
  • art and craft activities such as painting toad homes

Wild Workshops

Froglife also offer one-off sessions in the school holidays. These workshops are based in outdoor community settings such as a nature reserve or community garden.

Activities are chosen to support the interests of the participants and can consist of a wide array of activities in conservation, art or learning activities, such as pond dipping, painting a wildlife mural and species surveys.

Social Prescribing

Froglife are offering green social prescribing sessions to support some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in the Peterborough and Whittlesey area to develop their learning, motivation, and skills.
