The Lantern Initiative – Support for Muslims

Back to Support

The Lantern Initiative is a Muslim-run grassroots community organisation that offers monthly peer-led drop-in support sessions for adults and young people aged 13+. A safe non-judgmental space for people to come and learn about emotional wellbeing.

The Lantern Initiative’s objectives are to educate and raise awareness of mental health issues in the Muslim community, to help break down the associated stigma, and to empower communities in seeking and accessing relevant support with their mental health and wellbeing.

They seek to fulfil their aims by providing more platforms to openly discuss mental health, thereby making it less of a taboo subject. They team up regularly with counsellors and psychotherapists to facilitate events and workshops, focused on various mental health and wellbeing-related topics. Their unique and dynamic service consists of tailored supportive and professional mental health events, seminars and workshops.

The Lantern Initiative offers free to attend sessions; see their Facebook page or Events on their website to see what is coming up. To find out more please email them.

They also host a women’s wellbeing social group at a local cafe called Chai & Chat, see that page for more information.
